Technical informations

Fire tanks ensure the safety of protected facilities

A well-connected fire tank should be placed on the base plate and connected to it using brackets and anchor bolts. The dimensions and reinforcement of the plate can be selected for each structure, depending on its capacity and the type of substrate.

Modern tank design

As part of our services, we can design the tank foundation slab and the slab itself along with technological pipes and flanges, or make the slab according to the provided design.

Our offer includes modern fire protection tanks sealed with EPDM or PVC membranes, prefabricated by the manufacturer and dedicated to a tank of a specific size. The use of a membrane means that the walls do not have direct contact with water. This has a significant impact on the longer life of the water supply tank, but also on its efficiency and failure-free operation.EPDM membranes remain flexible and durable in the temperature range from 40ºC to 120ºC and have shape memory. After stretching by approximately 300%, the EPDM material returns to its original shape and size.

A tank adapted to what you need

The use of membranes allows us to install the tank even at very low temperatures and guarantees that the stored water will not come into contact with the thermal insulation or tank walls.

Each fire protection tank we produce consists of galvanized steel sheets measuring 2.5 m long and 1.25 m high. The thickness of these sheets depends on the usable capacity of the deposit assumed in the design and the required norms and standards. The sheets are made of galvanized steel of the S350GD + Z275 or Z360 and Z600 grades for steel tanks from FM Global.

Individual sheets of metal are screwed together with M12 screws at the construction site. The tank shell is attached to the concrete foundation using galvanized angles, brackets and anchors. The color of the tank can be adapted to the surrounding buildings, as it is possible to powder-coat the sheet metal surfaces or cover the tank shell with trapezoidal sheet metal in a selected RAL color.

The tank roofs we use are stable, self-supporting structures made of specially designed cold-bent „Z” profiles, covered with trapezoidal sheet metal or optionally – at the investor’s request – insulated with sandwich panels.

Construction requirements and standards

Fire protection water tank installation technology

The tank design should be prepared when planning a new facility or adapted to an existing one, when changing its function or renovation. When planning the construction of a fire reservoir, the guidelines contained in the Regulations of the Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration should be taken into account.

Thanks to the modular design, our tanks are available in a wide range of sizes, so they can be adapted to the needs of any facility. The tank capacities given in the type series are operational values and do not include the air layer above the water surface or the lower dead zone.

Construction information

Equipment and fittings for fire protection tanks

The steel fire-fighting tank must be equipped with a set of process lines specified during design, and their arrangement and sizes depend on the standards used and the conditions of connection to the fire-fighting pumping station.

Standard tank lines include: suction, supply, test and return, drainage, overflow and relief lines.

The piping can be routed through the bottom or shell of the tank, depending on the design assumptions.
The tank equipment also includes elements such as an electrical switchboard with heaters and water level probes, cabling within the tank, a ladder and landing, a platform with a railing, a service hatch on the roof or a lower service hatch (using NFPA and FM standards) and tank marking.

Anti-freeze protection is provided by immersion heaters, which emergency heat the water at low temperatures, below 5°C, and by foundation insulation.

Fire protection tanks with FM Global certificate, are additionally equipped with a four-water level monitoring system:

  • nominal
  • short
  • emptying
  • alarm

Saving time and space during construction works

Thanks to proven assembly technology, three people are usually enough to build a fire tank. The use of hydraulic lift sets specially designed for this purpose allows us to start the construction of the structure ordered from the roof and then assemble subsequent elements without the use of cranes.

The experience of our teams ensures efficiency during construction works, which is why the average time it takes to build a fire tank is from three to seven days. With the construction method used by us, it is not necessary to use cranes, and the investment can be carried out in the vicinity of other facilities, which automatically reduces implementation costs and minimizes the number of necessary permits.

To ensure that the investment is carried out correctly and completed, remember that the tank should be designed and built by a properly selected contractor who will have appropriate knowledge and experience. Construction works carried out by a specialized company will be performed in a professional and well-thought-out manner, which will ensure the creation of a tank that is structurally compliant with applicable safety standards and technical assumptions.

Stages of construction of a steel fire tank

  • We start building the tank from the roof.
  • We use a special set of hydraulic lifts.
  • We do not use cranes, so there is no need to obtain additional permits.
  • We can build a reservoir in close proximity to other facilities.
  • We take up less space on the construction site.
  • We ensure quick implementation and lower investment costs.

Tank design

Sheets of sheet metal

with dimensions of 1.25 m x 2.5 m, made of galvanized steel, grade S350GD + Z275 or S355.

Coat thickness

depends on the size of the tank, required standards and standard of workmanship. Individual sheets are screwed together with M12 screws at the construction site.

Tank coat

is attached to a concrete foundation using galvanized angles, brackets and anchors.

Painting the tank

It is possible to powder-coat the sheet metal surfaces or cover the installation casing with trapezoidal sheets in a selected RAL color from the available „Pruszyński” color palette. Additional painting of the tank shell or a façade made of trapezoidal sheet metal constitutes an additional layer of protection against the effects of the external environment, significantly prolonging the proper operation of the tank and its failure-free operation, and also provides an additional visual and aesthetic effect.

Tank roof

fire water supply is a stable, self-supporting structure, made of special cold-bent „Z” profiles Z250, Z300, Z350 covered with trapezoidal sheet metal T35 or optionally – at the Investor’s request – insulated sandwich panels. We use „Arpanel” sandwich panels with a core of rigid PIR polyisocyanurate foam with a thickness of D 40/80, D 60/100, D 80/120, D 100/140, as well as Arpanel PUR boards with a polyurethane core with a thickness of D 40/80 , D 60/100, D 80/120, D 100/140. The shape of the roof structure ensures free drainage of rain and snow from the roof surface to each side of the tank.

Tank tightness

is ensured by the use of a prefabricated EPDM synthetic membrane with a thickness of min. 1.00 mm adapted to the dimensions of the tank. EPDM has good properties for reversible deformation under the influence of mechanical forces, while maintaining the continuity of its structure. The material retains its flexibility in the temperature range of -40 °C to +110 °C regardless of the prevailing weather conditions.

Seal selection option

At the customer’s request, we also use a polyvinyl chloride membrane, the so-called PVC, min. thickness 0.75 mm, adapted to the dimensions of the tank. It is characterized by high mechanical strength and resistant to many solvents.

Membrane

it is separated from the tank foundation with a 300g/m2 polypropylene geotextile, which protects it against mechanical damage during installation and operation.

Thermal isolation

Each tank is equipped with 40 mm thick Styrodur thermal insulation located between the membrane and the tank jacket along the entire height of the tank, attached to the walls of the tank structure with screws and glue. This location of the insulation ensures long-term preservation of thermal properties and no degradation of the material under the influence of moisture.

Insulation selection option

At the Investor’s request, external insulation made of ProRox SL 960PL mineral wool with a thickness of 10 cm can be used, additionally protected from the outside with a T18 x 0.7 trapezoidal sheet painted in any color from the RAL color palette.

Tank equipment

  • Pipes selected for a specific tank according to types and standards.
  • Electric heaters mounted in pairs on the tank wall 0.5 m below the water surface – from 3 kW – 18 kW ~ 400 V.
  • Inspection hatches mounted on the roof of the tank.
  • Inspection and service hatch mounted in the lower, lowest row of tank shell panels. The standard used determines the number of service hatches to be installed.
  • Galvanized ladder enabling access to the hatch on the tank roof.
  • Control cabinet responsible for the operation of the heaters, controlling the level and temperature of the water in the tank.
  • Materials used ensure that the investor is provided with the highest quality product that meets the strict requirements of norms and required standards.
  • Modular structure allows for quick installation, as well as the possibility of any modifications to increase the required tank capacity, if necessary.
  • Connections the tanks are equipped with all necessary connections and devices required for efficient cooperation with the combustion and electric pumps used.
  • High quality allows you to obtain a long-term warranty ensuring many years of failure-free use of the tank and the certainty of failure-free operation for many years.
